Signs it's time for active rehab

You’ve finished passive treatment and pain is down, but strength and confidence haven’t come back
You keep re-aggravating the same injury when you push training or activity
You want a structured, progressive plan instead of a list of stretches
You’re recovering from a car accident and need to rebuild capacity safely
You were hurt at work and need to get back to full duties

YOUR ACTIVE REHAB PROGRAM WILL INCLUDE

  • A detailed functional and movement assessment/screen
  • A corrective exercise program tailored to your specific injury and rehabilitation goals
  • A progressive strength and conditioning program to build stability and stamina
  • A printout of your full rehabilitation program with detailed instructions
  • A link to your rehabilitation program with videos to provide visual feedback

Before your first appointment

Wear or bring clothing you can move and exercise in, so your kinesiologist can assess and test movement properly. If you’re coming in for an ICBC claim, have your claim number ready. If you’re using extended health benefits, bring your plan details so the clinic can check direct billing.

What active rehab costs

Pricing varies by session length and can change, so the most reliable place to see current rates is the online booking page. What you pay depends on whether it’s billed through extended health or an approved ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim.

If you’re being treated under an approved ICBC claim, there is no out-of-pocket cost for your covered visits. WorkSafeBC claims are handled through your case manager.

Questions about active rehab

The East Vancouver clinic, at 5334 Victoria Dr in Victoria-Fraserview, is the one taking appointments. The second Movement Room clinic at 2337 Main St in Mount Pleasant hasn’t opened yet, so it has no hours and takes no bookings. If Main Street is the location that suits you, the waitlist is how to hear when it opens, and East Vancouver can see you in the meantime.

No referral is needed to book active rehab in British Columbia. An appointment can be arranged directly with the clinic. Some extended health plans still ask for a physician’s note before they will reimburse kinesiology sessions, which is a rule set by the insurer rather than the clinic, so it is worth reading the wording of your plan before the first visit if reimbursement matters.

Active rehab is one of the treatments ICBC and WorkSafeBC fund once a claim has been opened, and Movement Room can bill directly with your claim number. For extended health, we direct bill Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, and Green Shield where the plan permits it.

Physiotherapy leans on assessment, hands-on treatment, and early-stage rehab planning. Kinesiology picks up from there — building strength, conditioning, and capacity through a progressive exercise program once the initial injury has been assessed. The two sit alongside each other at Movement Room, and a practitioner can move you between them without starting over.

No. Active rehab can be booked on its own. If an assessment shows the problem needs more hands-on treatment than exercise, your kinesiologist will say so rather than continue rebooking you.
